What's all this hype with makeup anyway?

Dating back to the ancient Egyptians, women have been wanting to look their best and saw the best way to make this happen was through the application of make-up.

Women have been struggling with self-love since we began relying on the media to define what real beauty is. Some would coin this being the reason why women have took to re-creating and decorating themselves with make-up. Many often struggle with contemplation about whether they should wear makeup or not from fear of what others might think, being judged or the idea that a woman that wears makeup doesn't have love for herself or "as much" for that matter. Some would respond asking "Why is she always wearing make-up" or "she's a catfish", while others would respond simply asking "Why do you care so much?"

The media has done one hell of a job at making women feel as though we should, if we do not wear make-up. "Do it look like I'm left off bad and boojie!" There are certain stigmas that are associated with being "Bad and Boojie" one of those outside of Christian Louboutins is make-up. From the bold, perfectly concealed eyebrows to the highlight on her chest, when she applies her mac lip stick she transforms to a woman that lacks no confidence.

While, these days celebrities left and right are starting a make-up line, women are becoming makeup artists and makeup enthusiasts. We have the latest, greatest, "Kylie Lip-kit" must-have, and one line that has come and dominated the force,"Fcenty" by Rih-Rih. She definitely showed up and showed out for our melanin sisters. With this said, the marketing is often manipulative and degrading but it does the job by making us consider whether or not we should load up a youtube tutorial and give it a shot. I know I've had my share of bad experiences.

But if you must know and understand why a woman chooses to wake-up a whole 30 minutes to an hour before they typically wake up for work to do their make-up, well then ask one. Ask two! You will receive a versatile collection of responses.

So to save you the shame I took it to Facebook to get real answers from real women:

1. Leahlynn says, "You can be whoever you want to be, whenever you want to be. It brings a different meaning when you can say I did that. I created that! I made that brow pop.

How many can relate to this. New day, New Mood, Fresh Energy, and your makeup allows you to express this. Work looks may call for a more soft and subtle natural look while Saturday night might call for a more bold, and edgy look. One of the best factors of makeup is the ability to transform. When you're feeling down, no one has to know. Makeup allows you to be the BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF- well depending on the day.

2. To simply enhance the beauty we already possess.

You're beautiful! You're utterly beautiful just the way you are because your look is your look and no one looks like you. Your look is unique, your look is identifiable, your look is a genetic trait for who you are. Makeup gives you the ability to add the umph. Makeup is like spray painting your hairline when your hairline is fading. (That one was for all the fellas that can relate and feels offended when a woman chooses to wear make-up). Fabiola says, "I like to glow for the gods, bat my lashes at my man and have bronzy looking skin even when I’m pale af." Fortunately, makeup allows her this much.

3. "It's fun. It's like playing dress up," says Miss Keys (singer and entrepreneur).

Makeup allows you to engage your inner artist. Its another way of expressing yourself just like your outfit of the day.Whether you're in the mood for a Lady Gaga inspired look or you want to transcend to ancient egypitian days, makeup rewards you the ability to do just that- depending on your mood.

4. To temporarily cover impurities.

Makeup is for the days where you wake up, look in the mirror and momentarily frightens yourself with a pimple or dark spot that chooses to grace you with its presence on the day you have a date. Don't let the pimple ruin your date sis. It'll be gone by tomorrow, show up your best self and go get your man.

5. An element of self-care.

Self-care is essential. Especially during stressful days where you have a difficult time figuring out what to be grateful for besides life itself. Your alarm rings 30 minutes sooner than often, you're hype and ready to get up and enhance your beauty. Sitting in a mirror for minutes on end takes patience, it gives you the time to focus on you for moment. Grants you the time to love on yourself. Not anyone else. Sorry folks, applying makeup is not about you.

6. Boosts confidence.

This one is self explanatory for those that love accusing women of being insecure for wearing makeup. Issa different kind of vibe when your face is beat. Its instant gratification! It makes you feel more positive about yourself, your attitude, more physically attractive and even mentally attractive.

While some may not agree with these few reasons that explain what all the hype is encompassing makeup and choose to continue not wearing it, many can relate.

Nevertheless,

At the end of the day, the choice is yours? So if you're going to wear make-up just make sure you slay Queen!
